A Little Encouragement

Hi everyone!

Sometimes, I forget who watches anything I post on FB. :)
Earlier today, I shared this image of a Kekkaishi illustration WIP.

Yes I was watching Kekkaishi on the second screen while colouring lol

I was pleasantly surprised when my ex-boss commented on the photo, asking what the illustration was for. She loves Japan & knew that I was involved in anime conventions, so I told her that it was for an illustration fanbook.

She said “do u know that the manga ka for this is a female? Good drawing : ) ”

It’s probably just me, but reading between the lines, I think she was encouraging me, like meaning to say “this great mangaka is a female, so you can do it, too!

Regardless of whether she meant it as a normal statement or just a little compliment, I thought it was a really kind gesture. ^_^ Small things like this really do make one’s day.

Moreover, I had no idea that she was a fan of Kekkaishi & Yellow Tanabe (the mangaka) too! (lol my ex-boss rocks)
What a small world. I guess it really is true that people don’t attract that which they want, but that which they are. (it’s a quote by James Allen)

Thanks (ex)boss. I’ll work hard!

Take care & goodnight everyone >w<

Whoa. It's been three years since I used this account.

Recently, I've been bogged down by a number of uncertainties. I'll tell you what unclogged my mind--

A shounen anime episode. Yes, I'm not kidding.

This morning, I was watching two episodes of Kekkaishi, as per my usual morning schedule.
In the episode entitled "Special Training", the main character, Yoshimori, was feeling lost as to what to do and was confused as whatever he was doing (in this case, training) was helping him make any progress.

Yoshimori Sumimura (I doodled this lol)

He ran up a long plight of stairs towards a temple on a hill, and explained to a monk who was sweeping leaves, that he needed to have a good run to clear the things clogging up his mind. Makes sense, I should sweat it out too when I'm overthinking.

The monk said:
"What you're doing now might not be wrong.
Sometimes, eureka moments happen while you're doing things frantically."

Basically, he's saying that as long as you don't stop doing things towards a goal, you'll find the answer to your uncertainties somewhere along the way. Just don't give up halfway.

The monk also gave him another piece of advice:
"You may be negligent if you become too fixated with what you see in front of you.
Free yourself of distracting thoughts,
and take things as they are.
That's what enlightenment is."

I interpreted it as shifting our focus to a bigger picture, instead of solely looking at our current circumstances. Only when you accept a situation, circumstance or problem as it is, only then you can focus on making it better.

If I were to make a shounen manga someday, I hope it'll be something like Kekkaishi--inspiring, not so flashy, featuring characters that don't outshine each other, good pacing, no unnecessary love triangles, excellent storytelling, and makes you think.

Yosh. Gotta keep going. Let's work hard! (っ`・ω・´)っ

Battleship

Hi everyone! (◕◡◕)

I went to watch Battleship with Nurul today.

IT.

WAS.

EPIC!!!!! (*≧▽≦)♪

Release Date: 18 May 2012
Genre: Action | Sci-Fi
Cast: Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, Billy Slaughter
Directors: Peter Berg
Writer: Erich Hoeber, Jon Hoeber
Studio: Universal Pictures

Here's the trailer!

Even though it features the basic plot of "zero-to-hero, loses person who gave the most moral support, becomes someone dependable, gets the girl in the end" was normally found in a lot of other movies of this genre (or shounen anime, like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann), the execution was very well done. Instead of the typical "air-force heroes", this movie features marines as the protagonists (well, it's called Battleship for a reason lol). There was a balanced amount of comedy, romance, sci-fi amidst all the action. The actors and actresses' acting were superb, I thought that even Rihanna did a good job portraying her character. They portrayed the human weaknesses and characters well. I thought that the tactical battle was the best part of the movie. O(≧∇≦)O The movie has a decent amount of suspense moments to keep viewers on the edge of their seat (well, for me, at least (^_~) it even made Nurul beg the characters to run away hahaha, funny girl ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ )

~Battleship movie poster~

I was glad that the movie makers didn't make the female characters as typical "damsels in distress". Initially I thought that Rihanna's character would be the "Smurfette" in the movie, but I was quite mistaken cause she had quite a lot of screen time alongside the guys, and that she wasn't the only important girl character. xD The movie even ingeniously showed the true format of the actual "Battleship" game , which features "coordinates". :)

Liam Neeson you awesome actor you!

I liked the mech and bodysuit designs too. The CGed alien ships were so awesome! xD

In a nutshell, I really loved the movie. (-ω- )☆

The only downside I see is the fact that one of the final dialogues seems to be targeted towards the fujoshis (-A-) It's nothing serious, but I don't see the need for that particular dialogue, actually. =/ Not gonna spoil it here.

I definitely recommend this movie for those who action & sci-fi fans! Or basically to those who like lots and lots of explosions in general! Badass movies ftw! :D

My thoughts? ★ ★ ★ ★ ★, definitely!

That's it for today!

Goodnight~ m(_ _)m

Warehouse Cafe + Irresistible Wear Art Exhibition

Ya minna! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Warehouse Cafe

I went to The Warehouse Cafe Art at Chinatown KL today lol.
(´・ω・`) It's a food outlet cum art gallery, which piqued my interest to go and take a look :P My good friend Rainbow (her hippie name lol) treated me to the sandwich set ♪(ノ´∀`*)ノ The sandwich set is priced at RM 20++, but we got it cheaper as my friend bought Groupon vouchers~

Photobucket
Rainbow turning around like a model LOL. Work with the camera baby!

Located opposite a Hindu temple, the shop is composed of three sections, namely fine dining (1st floor) , art gallery & the cafe section. The outlet itself looked incomplete, as it seemed like the tiling of the floor wasn't completed. Although I do wonder if it was left unfinished on purpose for artsy-fartsy purposes LOL.
( ̄▽ ̄)ノ_彡☆

Photobucket
The tuna sandwich

I chose tuna filling for the sandwich, while Rainbow (who was clad in her Love-and-Peace fashioned clothing) opted for smoked chicken.
( ´∀`) I forgot to take a picture of her sandwich though ∑(O_O;)

Photobucket

Really thick coffee

The sandwich comes with salad and coffee. I liked the salad a lot! It was slightly salty, just the way I like it. The coffee was too thick & bitter for me, but some people like it that way xD I think it would've tasted better if I drank it while it was still slightly hot. All and all, the dish was filling and yummy, I didn't feel hungry until night-time.
\(o ̄∇ ̄o)/ふあー

Some of the artworks showcased

The outlet also sells paintings for RM 450 each. We weren't supposed to take pictures, but we didn't see the "no camera" sign until we were done taking pictures. Oops :P

Photobucket
There were three comfy chairs, including this one (too lazy to align this pic)

It was quiet, so I liked the atmosphere~ 8D Here's the address:

KLCC's Art Gallery: Irresistible Wear

Photobucket
This was located at the KLCC entrance near the big lake lol. Diwali is approaching~

Me & Rainbow went to the KLCC Petronas art gallery after exiting the cafe. The "Irresistible Wear" showcase started yesterday. Rainbow was naturally excited as she looooves all those tie-dye patterned clothing 8D Haha, you hippie girl you

Unfortunately taking pictures was prohibited (naturally), so the best I could show you was my un-awesome freehand drawings xD;;; i just wanted the style as reference so yeah.

Photobucket
The fashion showcase was mostly based on Batik, patterns painted using the "Shidori" technique & tie-dye patterns

New Header+Layout+random stuff 8DDDDD

Ya minna~! Hisashiburi da yo na! ヾ(^∇^)ー♪

Yes, I am still alive haha. Hope you're all doing fine! I am now back in KL, looking for a fresh start in my working life. Sadly not everyone agrees with this idea, especially those close to me. Now I'm really wondering whether I've made the right choice...

New Layout+Header!

How do you guys like the new Persona 3 Portable header? I drew and coloured it myself
(*^^*)ポッ I don't wanna toot my own horn, but since it's the first time I made one, I felt like I had made a little achievement today (albeit on a whim, heehee :P ). The header is a preview of my artwork to be released in an upcoming artbook by KAMCAO and other guest artists including Nad (thestarofpisces). The artbook will debut on 12.11.11 at AFA 2011 Singapore! It'll be the first time that my artwork would be printed out and sold so I'm really excited! ^_^ Do support us! (^0^)/ Oh yeah, two of my artworks will be featured in the book |・ω・`)コッショリ Nad helped me a lot in editing the artworks ^w^ Hopefully all those sleepless nights to finish the artworks were worth it! (finally my tablet has pressure, thanks to Nad lololol I never installed the drivercoughcough)

Btw, I updated the layout for my tumblr too. Go check it out! ;D I installed a P3P theme, hehehe. ^3^

Part-time job

Initially I sought to work at Old Town White Coffee as a part-timer, but alas they never called me back. I was unfortunate enough to have come at a time when the Manager was not present. The woman who asked me to fill in the application form seemed a bit grumpy, too. So in the end, I'm still jobless. Lol.
(´・ω・`) Come to think of it, today's the day of the open interview at Starbucks. But I changed my mind on going since a company already called me for an interview, and it seems like there's a high chance that I'll be hired by the said firm.

Potential Job?

I was called for a second intereview with Kingsbury Media & Advertising for the post of Copywriter. I'll be honest and have never done any copywriting work before, but I'm sure I can learn how. If it's a language pattern, I'm sure that it can be conquered via hard work. However, I was dreadfully late for the second interview. Luckily, they didn't think ill of me
(’-’*) フフ Apparently, the CEO was unsure of my capability of translating an ad into Bahasa Malaysia, so I'll have to wait for an e-mailed English ad for me to translate (to assess my skill). I really hope I'll do well! I know I can do this! ((((ヽ(`0´)ノ))))バーリアッ But if I don't succeed, I'm sure other options will open up for me.

Friends Help Each Other

Yesterday night, I helped my friend Nad to edit her story for manga class. Editing other people's written works is quite fun! Probably due to the fact that I usually lack ideas for writing a story, so I found it quite thrilling, as I felt like I was the one writing the story. :P It's either that or I have some weird editing fetish ( ̄ー ̄)ニヤリ My writing style isn't very "flowery", so I hope that the editing was good enough. It was the least I could do after she helped me with photoshop editing and what-not xD Oh btw I drew this random ojiisan while I was editing her work hahaha

Karaoke

Recently, I suddenly felt excited in the karaoke room again (it's been a while since I felt that way). Probably I regained some of that old confidence haha ^///^. Hopefully I'll record a new cover song soon. (Today a housemate played truant from work, so I couldnt do that lol) I haven't been to SMICafe for months now, but at least RedBox has classic anime songs I could sing lol. And I can watch my non-tokusatsu-fan friends laugh their asses out at the Kamen Rider X video clip TwT'''' Now I usually sing Abba, Spice Girls and some cheesy boyband songs with Nad. I typically do the support background singing. Seriously, harmonising songs is fun!

Allright, that's all I have for today. Take care all! <(_ _)>
